Filmmaker Curtis Hanson, best known for helming ’90s crime thriller “L.A Confidential”, has passed away at the age of 71.
Hanson, who had retired from filmmaking because of his bout with Alzheimers and complications from heart surgery in 2011, died of a heart attack. His last credit as director was the Gerard Butler starrer “Chasing Mavericks”, which he co-directed with Michael Apted.
Hanson, who won an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay for 1997’s “L.A Confidential”, was well known for his thrillers – “The River Wild”, “The Hand that Rocks the Cradle”, “Bad Influence”, “Never Cry Wolf” and “The Bedroom Window” among his genre efforts. He also helmed Eminem starrer “8 Mile”, “Wonder Boys” starring Michael Douglas, “In Her Shoes” with Toni Collette and Cameron Diaz, and “Lucky You” starring Eric Bana and Drew Barrymore.
The Nevada born director made his debut with “Sweet Kill” starring Tab Hunter in 1972.
