Damages is renewed!

For a second and third season

I loved “Damages” – I thought it was one of the highlights of this year’s TV showings. Rose Byrne rocked. Glenn Close rocked even more. And Ted Danson? Man, he won’t be changing baby Mary’s diaper any-time soon, let alone doing a “Cheers” reunion movie, because his role in this thing is going to totally transform his career – from here on out, he’ll be a ‘bad-ass’. If he’d done this role before “Becker”, they’d have to re-work “Becker”!… the only way it would’ve worked is if they’d had Danson play Becker an over-sexed swine who gets ‘into’ Shawnee Smith between appointments; bangs the bar waitress after-work and does pro-bono surgery work after hours… for the ‘mementos’.
Bottom line : All the planets aligned for “Damages”. Heck, even the theme-song rocked! (release that puppy on CD already!).

Pity a few more of you didn’t watch it.

That doesn’t matter though… because it’s been renewed anyway, according to TV Week. And not just for a second season… but a third too!

“FX is proud of our status as a leader in fostering bold, high-quality scripted programming,” said FX Networks President John Landgraf. “We commend [creators] Todd A. Kessler, Glenn Kessler, Daniel Zelman and their magnificent cast, headed by Glenn Close, with pulling off this hugely ambitious series and establishing ‘Damages’ as one of the best dramas on American television.”

“Damages” didn’t rate very well, so it’s a surprise to everyone – probably Rose Byrne, whose no doubt in two minds about whether she wanted the show to continue or not, considering her film career seems to be taking off big time at the moment – that it’s coming back for more. Good though.

Byrne will be returning, as will Glenn Close, and former “OC” daddio turned legal pussy Tate Donovan. It’s unlikely that Ted Danson will return since SPOILER his character’s life was seemingly cut short at the end of the season 1 finaleEND SPOILER. But this is a show renowned for flashbacks… so you never know. Maybe there are still a few more skeletons in Sam Malone’s baseball memorabilia collection cupboard.

“Damages”’ second season will start production whenever this frickin’ – just give them their damn 8cents per DVD studio! – writers strike ends.

See Zachary Quinto as Spock!
