David Yates to helm Harry Potter spin-off

The “Harry Potter” spinoff is really starting to take shape with David Yates likely to sign on to helm.

Variety reports that Yates – who helmed the last four “Harry Potter” films – is in negotiations to direct the spinoff trilogy “Fantastic Beasts an Where to Find Them”.

The film will be set in New York about seventy years before the Harry Potter story began. It is based on the Hogwarts textbook of the same title and follows the events of its author, Newt Scamander, a 20-something magizoologist.

Warner Bros. and author JK Rowling stress that while the film is set in the wizarding world of Harry Potter, the new film will not be a prequel or sequel to the infamous tale of the Boy Who Lived. Rowling dubbed it “an extension of the wizarding world”.

Rowling will make her screenwriting debut on the project which is scheduled to hit cinemas on November 18, 2016.
