De Niro playing Grandpa in Dimension comedy

Before he reunites with Martin Scorsese (as well as Joe Pesci, Harvey Keitel and Al Pacino) for “The Irishman”, Robert De Niro will do a new family comedy for Dimension Films, according to Deadline.

The Oscar Winning actor will star in the “Home Alone”-esque “The War with Grandpa” for “Alvin & The Chipmunks” director Tim Hill. The script comes from Matt Ember & Tom Astle, writers of the hit “Home” and the upcoming “Kid Robot”.

Based on the best-selling novel of the same name, “War with Grandpa” is “about a young man who loves his grandfather, but also loves his bedroom. When grandpa’s wife dies, he moves in. His bad leg means he can’t stay in the attic bedroom, so guess who gives up his beloved bedroom? The young man engages in a series of pranks meant to drive out grandpa, but the old man is pretty resourceful in returning each salvo.”
