Disney is not doing The Princess Diaries 3

Update : Variety and EW have confirmed that a third film in the series is NOT happening. There’s nobody attached to write or produce the project, and Anne Hathaway is not onboard any sequel. Disney aren’t developing anything at the time.

She’s more sassy funkstress than sweet princess these days so it’s anyone’s guess whether Anne Hathaway still loves a good ball but nonetheless Disney are developing a third instalment in “The Princess Diaries” series.

The first two films – the last, believe it or not, made 11-years-ago now – starred then-newcomer Hathaway as the adorkable Mia, heir to a throne she never knew was up grabs, let alone existed. Julie Andrews co-starred, with rom-com vet Garry Marshall behind the camera.

According to The Tracking Board, who broke the news on the threesequel’s existence, original producer Deborah Chase is returning but at this stage she’s the only known attachment. While it’s quite possibly Hathaway – who has since gone onto bigger stuff, like “The Dark Knight Rises”, “Interstellar”, and “Love and Other Drugs” – will make an appearance in the film (maybe it’s her job to break in a new, younger princess!?), there’s really no saying because, let’s be honest here, she doesn’t need to do it.

Should Garry Marshall return to direct, Hector Elizondo – who has appeared in all of Marshall’s movies, including the first two “Princess Diaries” movies – will undoubtedly be in it.
