Dwayne Johnson out of next G.I Joe

Don’t expect the new “G.I Joe” movie to feature bulky Dwayne Johnson, a Bruce Willis cameo or a Transformer, playing Hawk, Hasbro have confirmed that they’re scraping plans to continue the current incarnation of the film series.

Though at one stage intended to be the next big-time blockbuster series for franchise resuscitator Dwayne Johnson, “G.I Joe” didn’t make “Transformers”-sized moolah, nor did it strike a chord with critics, let alone cinemagoers, so a second sequel to the has been abandoned in favour of a reboot.

The new “G.I Joe” film is being conceived with younger audiences – gotta catch that tasty pre-teen crowd, right? – more in mind.

“The world has changed, and I think you’re going to see G.I. Joe changing with it”, Hasbro’s global brand licensing chief Simon Waters tells The Los Angeles Times. “There’s going to be a much more contemporary approach to the whole franchise, and that will allow us to develop different characters.”

Hasbro’s chief content officer Steve Davis adds “We hope to create a head snap. It’s a different kind of ‘Joe’ – one that still resonates with ‘Joe’ fans but brings in an uninitiated audience and expands the audience internationally and domestically.”

Hasbro, who have new “Transformers” and “My Little Pony” movies in the works, refused to say when the new “G.I Joe” film might hit theaters only that it’s in the writing stages.

Wonder Woman sequel? Not so fast!
