Emma Watson is replacing Alicia Vikander in “The Circle”.
Vikander dropped out of the project recently due to scheduling conflicts with the new “Bourne” movie.
Tom Hanks co-stars in the film adaptation of Dave Eggers’ novel about a young woman (Watson) who is hired by an Internet monopoly called the Circle. The company links users’ personal emails, social media, banking, and purchasing with their universal operating system, resulting in one online identity and a new age of civility and transparency.
James Ponsoldt will direct from his own script when production kicks off this September in California.
Producers are Hanks and Gary Goetzman for Playtone, Anthony Bregman for Likely Story, and Ponsoldt.
