Exclusive : Who’s Jacki Weaver’s ex-husband in Five Year Engagement?

Yesterday it broke that bravura Aussie actress Jacki Weaver, hot off her Oscar Nominated performance as a crooked granny in “Animal Kingdom”, had snagged a plum role in producer Judd Apatow’s newie “Five Year Engagement”. The laffer, co-written and directed by Nick Stoller, would star Jason Segel and Emily Blunt as a duo who finally set a date.

Nobody seemed to know who Weaver, who has been courted by Hollywood for a couple of months now, would playing in the film – though your assumptions are close. Weaver isn’t playing the mother of the groom (Segel), as most outlets suspected, but the British ‘mum’ to Ms Blunt’s character.

And who’d be playing the ex-Mr Jacki Weaver? That honor goes to comedy vet Jim Piddock, best known for his roles in the Christopher Guest comedies “Best in Show” and “For Your Consideration” and for lending his lungs to such small-screen offerings as “Batman : The Brave and the Bold” and “Dollhouse”. Piddock had a small role in the Apatow produced “Get Him to the Greek” last year.

Weaver and Piddock’s characters have been divorced for quite some time.

The film sounds good too – real good gags, memorable characters, and heck, one of Australia’s best actresses playing skipper to make sure the tug doesn’t float off-course.
