Fox Network picks up musical comedy

A rather imaginative new show starring my buddy Stephen Tobolowsky (TVs “Deadwood”, “Heroes”) has been picked up for 13 episodes, according to THR.

“Glee”, an hourlong musical comedy from “Nip/Tuck” creator Ryan Murphy, is under consideration to fill the post-“American Idol” slot on Fox.

“I’ve had one of the best experiences of my career with Ryan Murphy doing ‘Nip/Tuck’ and we’re excited to re-create that experience here,” said Fox entertainment president Kevin Reilly, who formerly led programming at FX. “The second he pitched us ‘Glee,’ it was like he had it in his sights yet again. It’s got his trademark wicked sense of humor and its heart in the right place and feels like a show for the times.”

“Glee” centers on Will (Matthew Morrison), a thirtysomething Spanish teacher at an Ohio high school who has the task of taking over the school’s glee club, which has become a haven for outcasts. Tobolowsky plays one of the other teachers.
