Twilight star dumped from sequel?

Seems Catherine Hardwicke isn’t the only one to open her on-set locker and find a pink slip taped to the base.

According to Perez Hilton, Summit might have also have chopped one of the “Twilight” cast members from the upcoming sequel, “New Moon”.

Young Taylor Lautner, who played Jacob Black in “Twilight” (and who TV viewers may recognize as Christian Slater’s son on the short-lived “My Own Worst Enemy”), might be out. And seems the studio might already have their sights set on a replacement : “Scorpion King 2″ star Michael Copon. But why is Lautner being pointed in the direction of an illuminated exit sign? ”Apparently, they don’t think he has what it takes to play the werewolf love interest/lead in New Moon”, a source tells the gossip site.

Even Copon himself is taking to self-advertisement by changing his Facebook status to messages such as “Michael Copon in a Twilight Zone!” and “Michael Copon is the older Jacob Black!”

In addition, “Chronicles of Narnia : Prince Caspian” star Ben Barnes wants in on the next movie. The actor is trying to get the role of ‘Aro’, “a mind-reading vampire whose “New Moon” encounter with Edward and Bella helps shape their destiny together.”

Ironically, Copon and Barnes have the same manager as “Twilight” star Cam Gigandet!

“New Moon”, directed by Chris Weitz, will be released on Nov. 20, 2009.
