Galaxy Quest TV series lives, gets new writer

With Tim Allen’s dance card blank – after the cancellation of ABC’s “Last Man Standing” – and science-fiction (of essentially any sort) the reigning genre of the iTunes cats, no surprise to hear that the long-gestating TV spin-off of sci-fi laffer “Galaxy Quest” is inching forward.

Allen is expected to return for the series, an Amazon offering which Paul Scheer (“The League”) has been tapped to pen. Scheer replaces Robert Gordon, writer of the original 1999 film, who moved on from the project after it was put on pause following the death of castmember Alan Rickman, who was expected to reprise his role. He remains onboard as an executive producer.
