Gina Carano signs for Stockwell’s In the Blood; May end up in Expendables 3

Though her big debut didn’t exactly set the box-office ablaze, “Haywire” star Gina Carano seems to have got enough mileage out of the Steven Soderbergh-directed actioner to cement her career in Hollywood.

The MMA fighter has been recruited by “Blue Crush” director John Stockwell (You’ll remember him as an actor too; he starred in “Christine” and “My Science Project”) to headline another actioner “In the Blood”, according to THR.

Bennett Yellin and James Robert Johnston wrote the script, which is “set in motion when a husband disappears while vacationing in the Caribbean with his wife, to be played by Carano. The grieving wife passionately and recklessly pursues the men whom she believes kidnapped and killed him.”

In other words, it’s “Taken” with wet trunks.

“This role will showcase not only Gina’s fighting skills, but also her acting abilities as her character struggles to reign in her violent past,” Stockwell, currently helming “Code Name : Geronimo”, tells the trade.

8711, who worked the stunts with Carano on “Haywire”, are in talks to resume their role on this one.

Principal photography is scheduled to begin in late spring or early summer in Puerto Rico.

Meantime, and despite the fact it’s way too early to even be assuming there’ll even be a spot for her, let alone a film, Carano’s telling Den of Geek that there’s a fair chance she’ll end up alongside Sylvester Stallone for “The Expendables 3″.

“Yeah, I think Sylvester Stallone was really considering me for one of the roles in Expendables 2, but they needed a girl from China because that’s where they were going to be”, Carano said. “They needed a Chinese girl, so I didn’t fit the bill for that one. I’m sure I’m on some people’s radars, especially on the Mixed Martial Arts websites, so just stay positive and put out some good energy for me.”
