Goddard rebooting Spider-Man

Latino Review are reporting that Drew Goddard, the fanboy favourite who cut his teeth working alongside Joss Whedon on shows like “Angel” and “Buffy” and later, the movie “Cabin in the Woods”, has snared director’s honors on Sony’s “Spider-Man” reboot (The Wrap reiterates Goddard’s anointment, but stresses that he hasn’t quite got the gig yet – though it looks good.)

Goddard already had an in with both Marvel and Sony, so no surprise to find his name on the call sheet. For Marvel, Goddard’s been shepherding the smallscreen “Daredevil” series on Netflix, while Sony has had him working on their now-postponed “Sinister Six” movie. That flick, intended to be a spin-off of 2014’s “Amazing Spider-Man 2”, would’ve grouped various villains from Peter Parker’s journies into the one two-hour movie experience. But with Sony abandoning the Marc Webb/Andrew Garfield incarnation of “Spider-Man” in favour of starting again – this time with Marvel Studios as a partner – no surprise they’ve called the spin-off project off.

Goddard will be working with a new script, that he’s also responsible for, and a new actor – with Andrew Garfield now out, Sony are now looking for a new actor to fill his shoes; word is the new Spidey, will be of ‘high school’ age.

The “Spider-Man” reboot won’t be the first time we’ll see the new guy behind the cherry mask though – he’ll appear in Disney’s “Captain America : Civil War” first.
