Gray’s Robert the Bruce biopic heats up!

A new film shooting in Scotland (and some say down under, too) will see Angus MacFadyen, one of our all-time great actors, reprise one of his trademark roles.

The “Lost City of Z” star is playing Robert the Bruce, the character he played in the Oscar Winning “Braveheart” back in the Clinton-era, in “Robert the Bruce”.

MacFadyen has reportedly been actively pursuing the project for 11 years. The production, which director Richard Gray (“Sugar Mountain”, “Mine Games”) is now scouting Scottish locations for, is a hugely ambitious project with large scope and an even larger cast.

An insider tells The Scottish Sun : “Angus was inspired by Braveheart and felt there was so much more to the story of Robert The Bruce — lots that Braveheart didn’t touch on. The sequel puts that right. If people think William Wallace was a bigger hero than Robert The Bruce, they might think again after seeing this film.”

MacFadyen has since taken to social media to denounce claims that the movie is a ‘sequel’ to the Gibson movie.

Anna Hutchison (“Cabin in the Woods”), Jared Harris (“Lost in Space”, “Mad Men”), Zach McGowan (“Shameless”), Patrick Fugit (“White Oleander”), Kevin McNally (“Pirates of the Caribbean”), Talitha Eliana Bateman (“The 5th Wave”) and Shane Coffey (“Pretty Little Liars”) have also been cast in the film.

Producers on the project include Macfadyen, Gray and Hutchison with Kim Barnard, Nick Farnell, Cameron Nuggent and Andrew Curry.
