Great Scott! Back to the Future helmer set for Chaos Walking

It looks like Patrick Ness’ futuristic “Chaos Walking” may have a director, according to Variety.

With silver-screen adaptations of teen novels one of Hollywood’s biggest money spinners, it’s no doubt that Lionsgate has picked up the dystopic/coming-of-age novel to follow-on from the smashing success of “The Hunger Games”.

Initial announcements saw Charlie Kaufman of ”Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” sign on as the scriptwriter, with Robert Zemeckis (”Flight”) now in talks to direct. Although no official deal is in place, Lionsgate will no doubt be keen to get rolling on the project.

The “Chaos Walking” series features three books – “The Knife of Never Letting Go”, “The Ask and the Answer” and “Monsters of Men”.

“The Knife of Never Letting Go” opens the story of Todd Hewitt, the only boy in a town of men. With the entire population infected with a germ that causes them to hear the thoughts of each other, Todd learns that the town is keeping from him a secret so dark that he is forced to flee with his dog. With hostile men from the town hot on Todd’s trail, he and his dog discover a strange and silent create – a girl. As the questions begin to mount – who is she? Why wasn’t she killed by the germ like all of the other females on New World? – Todd must unlearn everything he knows in order to find the truth of who he really is.
