He’s too Lowe for Zero

Rob Lowe returns to the big screen, thanks to Ricky Gervais

Rob Lowe – slummin’ it in direct-to-DVD fare like “Stir of Echoes 2” and “The Christmas Blessing” of late – is back on the big screen!

The former mullet-haired saxophone-playing stud, famous for his amateur home movies, has been handed the golden ticket by “Extras” creator Ricky Gervais. Gervais has cast Lowe (still a damn fine actor if I do say so myself – he’s much better than that crud ‘Brothers & Sisters’ show he’s on) in his new film “This Side of The Truth”…. which sounds rather cool.

According to Variety, the comedy takes place in a world where everybody tells the truth. Gervais plays a storyteller whose job is to ramble on about the 1300s. Faced with losing his job because his terrain is a boring period in history once he gets beyond the Black Death, he invents lying as a way to save himself. Lowe will play his arch nemesis.

Jennifer Garner will also star.

Lowe’s last big-screen venture was “Thank You For Smoking” but his role was so small in it you’d wonder why he wasn’t paid ‘featured extra’ rates. Before that he appeared in “Austin Powers in Goldmember”, “Austin Powers : The Spy Who Shagged Me”, “A View From The Top”, “Proximity” and the cult fave, “The Specials”.

Holy Flock! Gere goes direct-to-video!
