After years of back-and-forth, 20th Century Fox has finally greenlit a sequel to “Independence Day”.
Producer Dean Devlin shared the news on his Twitter account.
While Will Smith isn’t expected to return, both Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman have said previously that they’re all involved in the follow-up to the 1996 hit. Roland Emmerich, who helmed the box-office smash original, is directing.
Originally, Devlin and director Devlin proposed two sequels, which would’ve been shot back-to-back, but seems Fox is only confident enough to press the trigger on the one sequel at the moment.
“Independence Day 2” is set for June 24, 2016.
