As part of his post-“Con Air” era film-work, John Cusack seems to be keen on bringing the remarkable stories of some celebrated real-life homo-sapiens to the big screen. Cusack, of course, did Edgar Allen Poe earlier this year in “The Raven”, just wrapped a turn as Richard Nixon in “The Butler” for director Lee Daniels, and before all that, stepped into the shoes of the celebrated Apocalypse-dodger Jackson Curtis in Roland Emmerich’s beautifully-captured true story of the year that was, erm, “2012”.
Now, according to Deadline, Cusack’s looking at producing a film based on conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh to the big screen.
“New Crime Productions and John Cusack are currently considering a project about the larger-than-life radio personality, Rush Limbaugh. Betty Thomas, who covered similar terrain in her portrait of Howard Stern, is interested in directing. The script would explore the rise and reinvention of American Talk Radio, and Limbaugh’s continued influence and impact over the last three decades in that world,” said True Crimes Productions today, the site quotes.
Cusack will – in-between doing his obligatory bi-annual action-thriller dud – play Limbaugh. But, as the site points out, the project is a long ways off. By the time it happens Thomas may have convinced Cusack to simply produce the film, and have Howard Stern play the lead role.
Whatever they do, I just hope they use the song Paula Abdul wrote about Limbaugh.
