Jump Street reboot to be a female buddy cop film

That long-mooted “21 Jump Street” and “Men in Black” movie is dead, it seems. The next film in the “Jump Street” film series will instead remain extra-terrestrial free. For that matter, sounds like it’ll also be devoid of Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum.

The stars of the two “Jump Street” flicks won’t be headlining the next instalment, says Columbia Pictures chief Sanford Panitch. Instead, the film will focus on two female officers.

“We think that there’s something fun about keeping that irreverent spirit of ‘Jump Street,’ but maybe having it be told through a female undercover cop point-of-view. We’ve had enough male buddy comedies. The script is really funny and has a freshness to it.”

Rodney Rothman, who wrote “22 Jump Street”, will write and direct the new film.

Clearly, Columbia aren’t completely out of the “male buddy comedies” though, with the studio prez confirming that the third “Bad Boys” movie goes into production in January.
