Latest from the British Circles

British newspaper The Daily Express have reported former girl band The Spice Girls are set to reform next year with a greatest hits album and a few new tracks. Yes, the Apocalypse is near. However much this disturbs or excites people, it is also rumoured the girls are being dicussed to write and record the theme ditty for the next James Bond 007 adventure "Casino Royale". Hopefully that stays just that – a rumour. Surely Duran Duran are keen for a job? Meanwhile, the paper also states James Purefoy and Clive Owen are still in the running to take over Brosnan’s Walther pistol.

Meanwhile, another British movie ‘221bCAUSE’ is being fast tracked into production in the UK. It tells the story of a former female NYPD officer turned UK travel agent, who replies to letters addressed to Sherlock Holmes. She discovers one letter to be from the President of the United States’ son, who has recently been kidnapped and so decides to take up the case. It was reported by the BBC a year or so back that this movie was intended for Britney Spears. Would you hire Brits to solve your crime? ponder it.

Funny enough, another script is being fast tracked into production in the US. It’s title: ‘Sherlock’s Secretary’. This one tells the story of a guy who lives at Sherlock’s famed address and decides to take up the case of er.. one of the letters sent there. Sounds like the forgotten siamese twin has come out to play.

According to Contact Music, The always fab (though reguarly wasted) Jeremy Irons has signed up to star in "Elizabeth : The Golden Age" with Cate Blanchett and Clive Owen. In the film, Irons will portray the Earl of Leicester, while one-time "Batman" contender Hugh Dancy wears the pants of his rival, the Earl of Essex.

The soccer movie ‘Goal!’ is receiving good buzz. Helmed by ‘CSI’ and ‘Judge Dredd’ Brit Danny Cannon, it is the first in a trilogy telling the story of a down on his luck US guy who makes a success of himself in the UK, then Spain, then of course.. to World Cup glory. Apparently Cannon has been inked in for the third movie though not the second installment. A host of soccer talents are on board, including David Beckham. The picture is produced by newcomers Milkshake Films and Lawrence Bender and will be released in August.
