Luhrmann's Alexander pic is still On

Even though Oliver Stone’s version made less money – and failed to get any good reviews – than a Carp Sandwhich would sell at Safety Beach, Director Bazz Luhrmann’s crowd tell The Daily Telegraph that he still plans on making his version of an Alexander the Great movie.

Funnily enough, Leonardo Di Caprio, who was set to play the lead role in Luhrmann’s version, recently told Moviehole that he didn’t think it would go ahead. "We had an intention at one time of doing them both, but you don’t get everything you want all the time", he said.

Now, a spokesperson for the "Moulin Rogue" director says he "still intends to make it".

"He currently has a number of projects in development and he has yet to decide which will be next on his slate," the spokesman said.

His film is tentatively called "Alx", and at one time, Nicole Kidman was all set to play Alexander’s mother. No word on whether she’s – or Di Caprio for that matter – still committed to the project.

I’m thinking the failure of Stone’s version might have actually worked in Luhrmann’s favour. After all, anything’s likely to be better than that mouldy custard of an effort, and audiences do probably still crave their 101 on the historic figure.
