McBride has “ideas” for more Halloween films

While the greenback-magnet “Halloween” reboot has very much been crafted as a standalone, it’s weekend openings suggest we’ll see a sequel sooner rather than later.
The film’s co-writer, Danny McBride, tells Deadline that he and co-conspirator, director David Gordon Green definitely have an idea where they’d like to take the next film in the franchise.

“We definitely have ideas of what we would do. I think we did not allow ourselves to really indulge those ideas until the movie came out. We just wanted to put all our hopes and dreams in having this film stick the landing. But we do have thoughts and ideas of what we could possibly do. We hadn’t invested a ton of time on them, but now we’re being asked to figure it out. There are definitely talks on whether we will do more of them and we’re just trying to see what best makes sense.”

Producer Jason Blum, meanwhile, tells The Wrap that he’s gung-ho for a follow-up.

“Of course we would want to make a sequel, in fact, we’re dying to make a sequel, but we’re guests in Malek Akkad’s house so there are a lot of people that have to be in the same mindset as us. Nothing’s been set in stone, but we’re certainly going to try.”

Producer Ryan Turek was insisted not to start thinking about a sequel until the first one was out of the way.

“Of course I would like to make another one, but Jason always told me, focus on the one movie and then we’ll talk about a sequel after. We would need to have a great story to tell, it has to feel relevant, it has to be scary, it has to have meaning.”
