Q. Gossip Monkey is retiring?

A. Well, in reality, Monkey is one busy dude so it make a bit of sense at the moment to start winding down a little bit. With that in mind though, I’m sure he’ll be back to do more as time goes on, but show him some love in the meantime by checking out his column for some good scoop this week.
Q. Re: Your bit on Russell Crowe vs. Robin Hood. Not sure why I bother to respond because that was one really lame piece. Gee, one more phone throw mention, yukyuk, so original. And a comeback? Because one smallish film didn’t do well? Crowe has three films coming out this year, “American Gangster”, “3:10 to Yuma” and indie “Tenderness”. He doesn’t need a comeback, he hasn’t gone anywhere and he’s still one of the most talented actors in the biz.
Anyway, Variety did give more info on the script in this article.

A. Super. Yeah, I could really give a rat’s ass about Crowe myself – the only two films I’ve really liked the dude in were “Romper Stomper” & “L.A. Confidential” – but I don’t know, did anyone really class “A Good Year” as a small film? I mean, a bomb is a bomb, and it was pretty widely panned, but….. screw it, I’m already bored talking about it………
Q. Hey Clint, love your site. Was just wondering if you could tell me about a few things. What is my man Adam Sandler up to lately besides that new movie he is doing about two gay people (who) have to get married?? (can’t think of the name). Also, is it confirmed that there is going to be a “Spidey 4”? Love all three movies and so does my 2 nephews. Also the last question, is can you tell me when or if “Heroes” season one is going to be coming to DVD soon? I missed the last two new episodes and I love that show. Thanks. – Sami
A. Hey brother, we love ya right back. Sandler has two films coming up soonish – the first being the one you were talking about, “I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry”. Which is the one he’s done with Kevin James (“Hitch”, “King Of Queens”). The other is a return to the serious type acting for him in the drama “Reign Over Me”, which is about a guy who loses his family during the 9/11 attacks, and his friendship with his old roommate, played by Don Cheadle. As far as a fourth “Spider-Man” flick goes, I doubt very much that it will happen unless Maguire & Dunst sign n the dotted line for another one, the rub being there that they have said unless Sam Raimi returns, neither will they, and it sounds like Sam isn’t too keen on Directing another one. I know that they are working on a script for a fourth flick, and if it turns out to be good – who knows what will happen. As far as “Heroes” goes, I have no doubt that there will be a DVD release of the first season at some point, I would think that it would probably be somewhere around August / September this year.
Q. Hey Moviehole Man, with a sequel to “The Departed” in development and rumours that Robert DeNiro will be in it, do you think the chances are good that Al Pacino will also be part of the cast? DeNiro and Pacino are the two greatest gangster actors of all time. Why don’t they do “Godfather 4” with Al Pacino and Andy Garcia? There is a large time gap between Andy Garcia taking over as the Don and the eventual death of Michael Corleone. – Chris
A. Ummmmm, I don’t know about Pacino doing it – from what I understand, the new flick will center around Mark Wahlberg’s character (good move BTW), but I guess it’s always a possibility if there’s a part for him……. With “The Godfather part 4”, it’s been a rumour for a long time now, and being one of those who thought that “part 3” was actually pretty good (nowhere near the first two, but still pretty decent) I wouldn’t mind seeing another flick, but I’m doubtful that it will happen.
Q.“Dark Knight” scoop? Especially on Katie Holmes if she’s returning? PLEASE? New Movieholer, – Tony
A. Welcome aboard Brother – so, since you’re new around these parts, I’m gonna assume that you haven’t read a whole lot here this week, so let’s see if there’s any mention anywhere else in the mailbag about Katie……..

Q. Darren Aronofsky’s “Batman” would have been an overlong, pretentious, bore fest; very much like his disaster, “The Fountain”. I would not be surprised if he can’t get another gig or a movie financed anymore. Just go away dude. We’re not interested. – Peter
A. OK, Darren taking a hit there from an unhappy viewer – and while it is about “Batman” to an extent, it’s still not quite the story we’re looking for here……

Q. Hey Clint, You mentioned that Warner may have let go of Katie to save their extra cash but various TV news say Warner gave her a raise of 2 million to do The Dark Knight. I feel like crying. What is Kate doing next? She’s busy visiting the CAA studios again. Stay cool, – Sasha
A. That’s the one we’re looking for! Yes, probably (for some strange reason) the most asked question of the last 6 months has been “What is happening with Katie Holmes and the next “Batman” flick?” You can read into it whatever you like, but I’m guessing the fact that it is supposedly a very small part in “Dark Knight” (less than ten minutes is the rumour…. At the beginning of the film….. that has Batman actively chasing The Joker over something… hint hint) has contributed to her / the studio’s decision to walk away from the part. Clint was saying today that there’s a story making the rounds that one of the chicks from “The Devil Wears Prada” may be taking over the role…. The one that isn’t Anne Hathaway – Emily Blunt, is it? So there you go – while she had been on the line to play the part for quite some time now, Katie is no longer attached to “Batman”.
Q. The studio should pick Jessica Biel for “Wonder Woman” not Sophia Bush. What was “Iron Man” thinking getting Paltrow? – Bill
A. OK, as for the deal with Gwyneth – I’ve got faith in Jon, so I’m gonna wait until I see some footage, but no matter what, you can’t say that having Robert Downey Jr. in the flick doesn’t do something for you on a geek level. As for Jess (who’s turning 25 this week, so happy birthday to her), she definitely looks like she’s getting into a bit of a buff state lately, and I don’t know if that’s just her exercise regiment or something else, but I agree with you, she could definitely pull off “Wonder Woman” – Joss, take note. Sophia Bush was / is that chick from “One Tree Hill” right? Never seen it, so I can’t really comment on her.
Q. Just wondering, is Jamie Lee Curtis going to do more movies soon? Haven’t seen her since “Crapmas With The Kranks” in 2004. She looks pretty good lately though, and I’m just wondering if she’s coming back soon at all. Thanks, Awesome Site – Samson
A You’re right, she is looking good – I know that a lot of people point to “Halloween” as being her looking real good, or even something like “Trading Places”, but she has never been as hot (in my humble opinion) as during the striptease in “True Lies” – friggin’ hot. A quick look around the web reveals…. Nothing much – but I’m with you, it would be good to see her back on the screen again soon.
Q. How sucky for TPTB replacing Angelina Jolie over Rachel Weisz? Weisz didn’t even deserve to win the Oscars. – L.G.

Q. Hey there Clint! It seems like everything from the 1980s is coming back with your recent post for “Alvin and the Chipmunks”. The kid in me is excited for the “Transformers” and “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” movies coming out this summer. Hey Hollywood, how about a “GI Joe”, “Thundercats” and “Alf” movie while you’re at it. Let’s just take everything from the 1980s and make them into movies! – Trevor from Canada

A. Hey Bud. Yeah, “Toy Story 3” is still going to be happening – not sure who is working on it, whether it’s still a joint Disney / Pixar thing or just solely one or the other – but yeah, it’s happening. As far as another “Tremors” goes, I think it is pretty likely that we’ll see another one, but no idea when.
Q. Have you seen this bit on Dark Horizons? A new version of “Barbarella”…a few years ago they told us it would happen with Drew Barrymore attached. Please.. say it ain’t so…. – Michael
A. Not big on the “restart” franchises there Michael? It’s true, Drew was heavily involved in a new version of “Barbarella”, and in all honesty, I think Dino might be talking a bit out of turn, because from what I understand, Drew actually has the rights to the character at the moment – or the option, something like that – so either that’s changed, or she’s come out with a partnership deal here.
Q. Wouldn’t Bernie’s body be all decayed and crap by now?? What are they going to remake next, “Just One Of The Guys”?. Studios will do this crap, but they won’t make a “Ghostbusters 3”? Pathetic. – Hank McCoy
A. Hey Doc, I don’t know a hell of a lot about that supposed “Weekend At Bernie’s” deal, but I think it would just be one of those remake type deals. With “Ghostbusters 3”, I don’t think it’s the studio that doesn’t want to do it, but I believe the next mailer has something to say that’s pretty close to the truth of the matter………
Q. Ok I got 3 questions:
1. “MacGyver” the movie it was announced around 2003 (same time WB planned to do a “Young MacGyver” show that didn’t pan out – the pilot was recently leaked. I saw it and loved it (and frankly would of tuned in each week for the show.) Than quickly went to development heck faster than anyone could grow a mullet.
What on earth happened to the film?
Oh in my opinion Paladacki could definitely play Mac
2. “Jaws 5” this bad boy has been rumored since 1999 and it also surprisingly has been in development heck as well since 1999. (One rumored plot involved San Francisco pretty cool too, had Hooper and a 35 ft great white the opening sequence was a guy trying to commit suicide by jumping off the golden get bridge and promptly got eaten)
3. And “Ghostbusters 3” will never happen right? I hope not especially with out Murray. Murray was what made the original 2

A. OK, well, the “MacGuyver” situation is another one of those shows that I just never got into, so I don’t know anything about the film or spin off shows as such – but The Boss man got a new staffer on board this week who writes up shit about films that never eventuated, so I’ll be sure to pass along your query. “Jaws 5”….. yeah, hopefully that’s probably not gonna happen – I think the closest thing that we’ve seen to a “Jaws” flick in a while was “Deep Blue Sea”. As for “Ghostbusters 3” – you’re spot on (at least according to most insiders) – the main reason that there wasn’t another installment was due to Bill Murray not wanting to reprise his character again. I would say if there was ever another “Ghostbusters” film that came out, it would either be as a remake (don’t laugh – could very well happen), or as anew franchise with all new characters, and some kind of obligatory tie-in to the original series like Aykroyd or Ramis. So – that just about wraps it up for this week, but we better check in with Holden before I call it a night:
