New Apes film on the move with Maze Runner director Wes Ball

A new “Planet of the Apes” film is in early development at 20th Century Fox, and “Maze Runner” director Wes Ball has been slated to helm the film. As the “Apes” film is in very early stages, no word yet on if it’s a continuation of Matt Reeves’ “War for the Planet of the Apes” or if it’s a complete remake.

The apey goodness has been ongoing since 1968, with the first film “Planet of the Apes” being an adaptation of the 1963 books by Pierre Boulle. Four sequels followed the original film from 1970 to 1973: “Beneath the Planet of the Apes”, “Escape from the Planet of the Apes”, “Conquest of the Planet of the Apes” and “Battle for the Planet of the Apes”.

Tim Burton rebooted with one pic starring Mark Wahlberg in 2001, and then in 2011 “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” gave a more modern spin on the tale with Andy Serkis in the role of Caesar the ape, who morphs from lab study to king of the monkeys. This was followed by “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” and “War for the Planet of the Apes”.

Not to mention the two TV series’, and the multitude of merchandise spawned from the franchise.

That’s a whole lot of monkey.
