The long-gestating third “Bad Boys” movie, “Bad Boys for Life”, has had the paddles pushed down on its chest, zapping it back to life.
It went quiet on the film – originally – when director Joe Carnahan departed his post, but Sony Pictures today announced they’ve not only found new helmer(s), they’ve a locked-in start date.
Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, the “Black” directors who were most recently attached to direct another long-gestating sequel, Paramount’s “Beverly Hills Cop 4”, are in negotiations to helm the newest chapter in the loot-lucky series. The two “Bad Boys” films, released in 1995 and 2003, took in a collective $414.7 million worldwide.
The studio are looking to get the project underway in August.
The most recent draft of the script – reportedly one of the reasons original director Carnahan (“The Grey”) left the project – was penned by Chris Bremner. A relative newcomer to the world of screenwriting, Bremner landed on the map with the upcoming comedy “Sick Day” from director Jeremy Garelick.
The movie, first announced in 2013, will again star Will Smith and Martin Lawrence with Jerry Bruckheimer back in the producer’s cap.
About the same time “Bad Boys For Life” begins principal photography, NBC’s new “Bad Boys” spin-off series, featuring Gabrielle Union’s (“Bad Boys II”) character, will have it’s pilot in the bag.
