Up-and-coming actress Shailene Woodley (“The Descendants”, “Divergent”, “The Amazing Spider-Man 2”) has snared the lead role in the film adaptation of John Green’s well-received 2012 novel “The Fault in Our Stars”.
Woodley, currently filming the role of Mary Jane Watson in “The Amazing Spider-Man” sequel, will play Hazel, one of two cancer-stricken teens that develop a relationship after meeting in a support group. The actress campaigned for the part.
Author Green is ecstatic with the casting, telling EW :
“I am absolutely thrilled that Shailene will be playing Hazel in The Fault in Our Stars. It means a lot to me that she is a fan of the book, and I know from our conversations that she has a profound understanding of Hazel. Watching her audition, I felt like Hazel Grace Lancaster was talking to me. It was eerie–and very exciting.”
Woodley next appears in the Sundance fave “The Spectacular Now”.
