Nickelodeon developing Baby Shark TV series

DOES NICKELODEON HATE US ALL?! Sorry for the all caps, but I feel it was necessary. What is this madness? What kind of world do we live in? Why does Nickelodeon insist on punishing us all?

The “Baby Shark” song, aka the recorder of the 21st century, is being developed into an animated series for preschoolers – based upon the viral kids video that plagues us all, not just those with children.

My opinion aside, this video has over 2.8 billion views on YouTube, so it’s probably a smart move by Nickelodeon. And definitely a smart move by Pinkfong, the company behind the audience-participation clip, is who is partnering with Nick on the project.

I like sharks, but I’m not a pre-schooler, so I’m definitely not the target demographic for this production – having said that my spidey-senses tell me it won’t be entirely a show with the song on repeat. Moreso using the shark character as the show.

“Baby Shark has captured the imagination of millions of fans around the world, so it’s no surprise it’s one of the top 10 most-viewed videos on YouTube ever,” said Ramsey Naito, EVP Nickelodeon Animation. “At the heart of any popular piece of content is a terrific character, and we have a great opportunity to further explore the world of Baby Shark and follow this family through some great animated adventures on Nickelodeon.”
