9 to 5 reboot in the works

Dolly Parton, Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin could be reuniting for a reprise of “9 to 5”, with 20th Century Fox in the early stages of a new version of the show. According to Deadline, the reprise would focus on three young women dealing with sexism and chauvinism in the workplace, who turn to the original trio for help in navigating and getting even with the course male higher-ups.

It’s kind of scary that a comedy from the ’80s is still contextually relevant today (see #metoo movement for a prime example), but here we are.

Rashida Jones is in talks to pen the script alongside Pat Resnick, to help make the content relatable for today’s young audiences. The film will be produced by 21 Laps’ Shawn Levy, Resnick and Jonathan Baruch of StoryBy Entertainment.

The original film was a massive success, bringing about that tune by Parton that I just KNOW is in your heads now, and a Broadway musical by the same name.
