Nintendo to make movies based on game characters

Nintendo has revealed plans to make films and other content based on its game characters.

Company president Tatsumi Kimishima told the Asahi Shimbun newspaper that the company is in negotiations with production companies around the world.

While details were not provided, reports suggest well known characters such as Mario and Link from the Legend of Zelda may appear.

Nintendo has licensed its characters for films in the past, but the company now wants to make filmmaking a standalone business.

The company hopes to release the first film in two to three years time.
