Old Fashioned vs. Fifty Shades of Grey next Feb

Well I must say, this strikes me as somewhat ironic.

Freestyle Releasing has dated its faith-based romance “Old Fashioned” for Valentines Day next year. For those of you that aren’t aware, that’s the same day that “50 Shades of Grey” is set to be released.

“I wanted to tell a love story that takes the idea of Godly romance seriously,” said writer-director and lead actor Rik Swartzwelder.

Swartzwelder stars in the film as a former frat boy who attempts to engage in ‘an old-fashioned courtship’ with his free-spirited girlfriend (Elizabeth Ann Roberts).

Of the steep competition, Swartzwelder said: “Opening the same weekend as ‘Fifty Shades,’ there’s definitely a David v. Goliath comparison. They will have more screens, more money, more hype . . . but we’re hopeful that we are not alone in our belief that there are others out there who desire more from love–and the movies–than objectification or domination.”

Dorothy Silver, Tyler Hollinger, Lejon Woods, Nini Hadjis, Maryann Nagel, Joseph Bonamico, Lindsay Heath, Anne Marie Nestor and Ange’le Perez also star in “Old Fashioned”. Swartzwelder’s Skoche Films is producing with Nathan Nazario of Motion Picture Pro Studios, Dave DeBorde and Nini Hadjis.

Fox’s “Poltergeist” reboot is also dated for next Valentines Day.
