Oscar nominee Abdi joins Blade Runner sequel

“Captain Phillips” actor Barkhad Abdi has joined the cast of the untitled “Blade Runner” sequel from Alcon Entertainment, Alcon co-founders and co-CEO’s Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove announced today.

Variety have the scoop on the Academy Award Nominee’s casting but, if only because the production has kept a tight-lid on all plot and character bits from leaking, have no info on who the actor is playing in the Alcon Entertainment sequel.

Abdi joins Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Robin Wright, Ana de Armas, Sylvia Hoeks, Carla Juri and Dave Bautista in the Denis Villeneuve (“Sicario”) directed film, due to begin principal photography in July.

The October 2017 release is set several decades after the 1982 original, with Ford reprising his role as Rick Deckard. Hampton Fancher and Michael Green wrote the script.
