Paramount’s probably hoping Justin Bieber plays withG.I Joe Dolls

Rumours that “Step Up” and “Justin Bieber : Never Say Never” director John Chu has been tapped to direct “G.I Joe 2” ramped up a notch today with Deadline reporting that Chu’s got the job. We expect the official announcement to come Monday.

Chu, who bet Gary Grey and Jaume Collet-Serra to the gig, seems to have won the job not based on his proven directing skills (besides, he’s never directed anything even resembling an action flick) but only because his Bieber flick is currently making a mint for Paramount. And if that’s indeed how and why Chu got the “G.I Joe 2” gig, one can only assume the studio’s currently making a deal with Bieber to play the sequel’s ‘new recruit’.

Stephen Sommers directed the original flick, which starred Channing Tatum, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Sienna Miller and Rachel Nichols. Most of the [surviving] characters return for the follow-up.
