School of Rock TV series gets 13-episode order at Nickelodeon

Paramount continues to mine their movie library for TV show ideas.

Deadline says a TV series based on Richard Linklater’s “School of Rock” is in the works. The series, which has landed a series order with a 13-episode, straight-to-series pickup by sibling cable network Nickelodeon, would seemingly take the place of the once-proposed movie sequel.

Linklater and producer Scott Rudin will executive produce the series, which is being written and executive produced by Jim and Steve Armogida.

The show will follow the same lines as the original : a down-on-his-luck musician (played by Jack Black in the film) who gets a job as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school. There, he turns the students into music stars.

“With Dewey’s outrageous personality and rock star sensibilities taking center stage, School of Rock will be an irresistibly fun show for the whole family,” Paramount TV president Amy Powell said.
