SDCC : Alex Aja remaking Maniac?

Alexandre Aja (“Piranha 3D”) is toying with the idea of remaking William Lustig’s 1980 classic “Maniac”.

The original film, which featured some very cool effects for it’s time, told of a schizoid serial killer who randomly stalks and kills various young women in New York, which he sees as revenge for the mistreatment he got while being raised by his own abusive mother.

The filmmaker tells Shock Till You Drop that “[It’s] something that I want to be involved with my long-time partner and co-writer, Greg [Levasseur], will direct. It might happen”.

Aja was at Comic Con (well, next door to Comic Con) where he presented footage from “Piranha 3D” – a flick said to have used 7,000 gallons on blood for it’s shoot (the blood of “Hills Have Eyes” haters, apparently).
