Sequel News : 28 Months, Avatar, Jump Street, Blair Witch, Joe Dirt 2

Several bits of news concerning upcoming sequels has hit the net. Here’s the latest on those particular projects.

28 Months Later
Screenwriter Alex Garland, writer of “28 Days Later”, says a second sequel to the zombie favourite will still happen. “We’ve got an idea. Danny [Boyle] and [producer] Andrew [Macdonald] and I have been having quite serious conversations about it so it is a possibility. It’s complicated. There’s a whole bunch of reasons why it’s complicated, which are boring so I won’t go into, but there’s a possibility.” Garland says it’s still likely “28 Months Later” would be the title of the film too because “28 Years gives you one more place to go. 28 Decades is probably taking the piss.” (IGN)

23 Jump Street
Thanks to the Sony email hack, the plan for a “21 Jump Street” and “Men in Black” crossover is already out there. And yes, it’s still a possibility. “Jump Street” directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller say, despite the info leak, it’s still a possibility that Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill will meet up with the MIB in their next adventure. “Nothing’s changed. It’s still a crazy idea, and we only do things that seem like they’re going to be terrible… We’re really focusing on what’s a great story for Schmidt and Jenko and how to tell the next chapter in their lives. And perhaps use creatures from another world at the same time!” (MTV News)

Avatar 2
James Cameron’s “Avatar” sequel, originally due for release 2016, now won’t hit theaters until Christmas 2017. The filmmaker blames the delay on the fact that they’re shooting multiple sequels at once. “We’re not just going to do one and then make up another one and another one after that. And parallel with that, we’re doing all the design. So we’ve designed all the creatures and the environments.” (Variety)

Blair Witch Project 3
A second sequel to ’90s juggernaut “The Blair Witch Project” is still very much a possibility, according to co-director Eduardo Sanchez. “We have been talking to Lionsgate and there has been a little bit of movement but nothing is concrete. The film seems inevitable to me, but really it’s just a matter of it being the right time. I’m thinking it’s going to happen sooner than later at this point, but I always say that. There’s always rumblings and certain ideas being pushed around and such. While I don’t have anything firm to talk about now, it wouldn’t surprise me if something happened within the next year or two.” (Dread Central)

Joe Dirt 2
The David Spade-starring sequel, set to debut on Crackle, will bring back original stars Christopher Walken, Dennis Miller, Brittany Daniel and Adam Beach; also joining the cast are Mark McGrath (“Sharknado 2”) and ‘Family Guy’ fave Patrick Warburton. Fred Wolf directs. (THR)
