Sequel news : Traveling Pants, Beetlejuice, Gone Girl

Most of today’s news might be Golden Globes-centric, but there’s a couple of interesting trickles doing the rounds regarding new instalments in a couple of popular movie franchises.

Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 3
America Ferrera says a second sequel to the popular girly dramedy is “very much in the works”. Furthermore, the former “Ugly Betty” star says it’ll be based on the fifth book in author Ann Brashares’ young-adult series. “What’s wonderful about it is, and the series to begin with, is that it’s really raw and honest about friendship and how hard it can be and how it changes as you grow up,” Ferrara said. The original cast – even new mother Blake Lively – are expected to return. (People)

Beetlejuice 2
The long-gestating sequel to 1988’s “Beetlejuice” will be set in the present day, according to screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith. Rather than reboot the series, the scribe insisted on having Golden Globe winner Michael Keaton come back in a movie set in today’s times. Much like the first film, sounds as if Keaton’s character will only appear in the film here and there – and won’t be the main character. (The Hollywood Reporter)

Gone Girl 2
“Gone Girl” author Gillian Flynn wants to write a sequel to the 2014 film, so long as the original cast – namely Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike, and director David Fincher – agree to reprise their roles for the film. “We could pick it up and see what those crazy Dunnes are up to a few years down the road and if they got on — not well I don’t think” (NYDailyNews)
