Shatner likely won’t be in Star Trek sequel

A couple of days back word surfaced that the Paramount brass has, despite not having read a page of the script, greenlit the “Star Trek” sequel.

The question remains, for some, is William Shatner involved in the film?

To the unversed, that query might seem a waste of words – particularly since J.J Abrams’ 2009 flick “Star Trek” is a prequel to the Shatner starring series and we’ve got another Kirk in Chris Pine now. But the rest of us know that Shatner, like Leonard ‘Spock’ Nimoy, was at one stage asked to appear in the film. Not content with a cameo, the 79-year-old opted not to do the film.

There’s been a lot of talk over the past twelve months or so – even the man himself has mentioned on occasion that there’s the possibility that he’ll be in the next one – that Shatner will be a part of the next “Star Trek”.

The actor sings a different song in a new interview with Australia’s Sunday Herald-Sun. Though he’s open to the possibility of reprising Captain James T.Kirk, Shatner says it’s unlikely he’ll be in the film.

“I would be so interested in doing it, especially with that wonderful director JJ Abrams, but I don’t see how it’s possible and maybe we all have gone beyond that,” he says.

“But I have shot a wonderful documentary where I talk to all the captains of Star Trek and try to find a common denominator and in the meantime have some fun talking to them about them and their lives.”

Looks like we’ve seen the last of Shatner’s Kirk (his last screen appearance as the character in “Star Trek : Generations”) which, I gotta say, is kinda sad.
