SLC Punk sequel with Matthew Lillard in the works

With his career revival (thanks to turns in “The Descendants” and “Trouble with the Curve”) 90’s teen-film staple Matthew Lillard seemingly has a bit more clout – or rather, clout.

Lillard and writer-director James Merendino are in the midst of getting a sequel up to their 1998 ‘ode to punk’ called “SLC Punk”, http://www.ifc.com/fix/2012/10/matthew-lillard-fat-kid-rules-the-world-slc-punk-interview reports today.

Though Lillard says Merendino and the film’s producers didn’t initially “bite”, they’ve seemingly come around; Merendino telling the site that he’s currently in NYC working on the sequel – tentatively titled “Punk’s Dead”.

The original film starred “Scooby Doo” vet Lillard as a wacky-looking punk “fighting the system” in Salt Lake City. Co-stars included Michael A. Goorjian (“Party of Five”), Annabeth Gish (“The X-Files”), Christopher McDonald (“Happy Madison”), and some guy called Jason Segel.

For those that didn’t catch “SLC Punk”, here’s a treat from YT :
