Sneakers and Enemy of the State coming to TV

Television adaptations of ’90s films “Sneakers” and “Enemy of the State” are in the works.

The former, set up at NBC, hails from prolific producing duo Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald (who were involved in the original movie) and former “The Mentalist” executive producer Tom Szentgyorgyi, who will pen the adaptation of the 1992 film.

Directed by Phil Alden Robinson, “Sneakers” fixed on a computer hacker, played by Robert Redford, who heads a group of specialists testing the security of various San Fraancisco companies. The man is approached by National Security to steal a decoder – one he and his team soon realize poses a huge threat if it lands in the wrong hands. Redford starred alongside Dan Aykroyd, Ben Kingsley, Mary McDonnell, River Phoenix, Sidney Poitier and David Strathairn.

Meanwhile, ABC has commissioned a pilot for a series based on the 1998 movie “Enemy of the State”.

The series, which hails from the film’s producer, Jerry Bruckheimer, and ABC Studios, would be set after the events of the Will Smith – Gene Hackman starring movie.

The pilot would be “set two decades after the original film, when an elusive NSA spy is charged with leaking classified intelligence, an idealistic female attorney must partner with a hawkish FBI agent to stop a global conspiracy that threatens to expose dark secrets, and personal mysteries connect all three of their lives.”

The original movie grossed more than $250 million at the box office.
