Star Trek III will not be a Joe Cornish film

Despite bushfire-blazing web rumours pegging him as the man to replace J.J Abrams on “Star Trek 3”, Variety says Joe Cornish (“Attack the Block”) is not in contention. Whether he ever was is anyone’s guess, but for the moment, he’s not one of the names on Paramount’s ‘get this cat’ list.

The nugget about Cornish’s nixing was buried in the trade’s report on J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay signing to write the movie.

Due to being choca-bloc with “Star Wars Episode VII”, Abrams will only produce the third installment of his ‘Star Trek’ reworking. Personally, I wouldn’t be surprised if “Jack Ryan” helmer Kenneth Branagh gets the call – he does seem to be Melrose’s top-pick for classy blockbuster fare right now.
