Disney has skedded “Force Awakens” follow-up – known only as “Star Wars Episode VIII” at this stage – for May 26, 2017. That’s the next instalment in the unyielding Skywalker saga, with Rian Johnson (“Looper”) writing and directing.
The studio has also locked in the first “Star Wars” standalone movie, “Star Wars : Rogue One”. The Gareth Edwards directed picture stars Felicity Jones (“The Amazing Spider-Man 2”, “Like Crazy”) and begins shooting this Summer.
The title suggests that this film mightn’t be about a group of smugglers stealing Death Star plans, after all.
“Rogue One” releases December 16, 2016.
