Firstly, much respect and love to the imperishable Caffeinated Clint who, from what I gather, has hard a rollercoaster March and April that left him pretty wan . Friend, you may have some lasting physical damage but the best thing to remember is that your heart remains pal. And having heard that you’re no longer able to travel, I’m more than happy to take your place on any overseas interview or set visit that features Jon Hamm. Happy to help there. In all candour bro, that’s some depressing news right there, and I can only imagine how impactful that’s going to be on your life considering what you do, but if anyone can handle it, you can. You’re one of a kind, buddy so keep fighting fit! You’re an inspiration and a wonderful chappie.
“Ten Things I Hate About You”. Think it came out in 1999, just when all the Freddie Prinze Jr and Jason Biggs comedies stared to gain popularity. Unlike those ones though, “Ten Things” was actually good. Based on Shakespeare’s “The Taming of the Shrew”, it was a clever update that had an awesome cast – an unknown Heath Ledger was one – and a really clever and funny script. The stuff between the overprotective father and his two teenage girls in the movie was priceless.
Anyway, Gil Junger, that film’s director, has written a sequel to it – all these years later. Called “Ten Things I Hate About Life”, it supposedly follows the same characters from the original movie, though they’re now all grown up, have real jobs and don ‘t probably listen to Cheap Trick songs as much. Hayley Atwell, who played the love interest in “Captain America”, is the first actress cast. The trade doesn’t say who she is playing though, to look at her, I’m guessing she’s playing Bianca (played by Larisa Oleynik in the original movie). If I’m right, it’s a shame, because it would’ve been nice to have had some of the original cast back – though I understand how hard that might be to pull off; naturally Ledger wouldn’t be back, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt is in a whole other league now than what he was when he did this movie, but maybe there’s a shot at Julia Stiles, Andrew Keegan and David Krumholtz? But I suppose if they’re going to recast a couple of the main roles, they might as well recast the whole thing. That’s probably the thinking there anyway.
Junger told Variety that the pic’s remained popular enough that he made more in residuals from it last year than he received for directing it in 1999. He said he was inspired to write the new script after coming across a man who had committed suicide at a scenic overlook.
“It is the story of two relatable, ordinary people with normal jobs and normal desires whose seemingly great lives have become unmanageable,” he said. “Two people who go to the same place at the same time to end it. … Their chance meeting is so awkward, so raw, and so funny, they postpone their intentions and go their separate ways.”
Okay, so I don’t know how such a story, let alone a suicide subplot, lends itself comfortably to a “Ten Things” sequel but I guess the guy knows what he’s doing. Either that or he envisions more juicy residuals and is thinking with his wallet.

This scene in the movie reminds me of my last boyfriend. I liked to pretend that I hated him, and I didn’t miss him, but well…. I felt the same way Julia Stiles did in this clip. He was sweet and the most caring guy and he took good care of me, but I was dumb. Two years later, I still don’t hate him, though I tried… “not even a little bit, not even at all”. Guess we’ve all got the ‘one that got away’ in our closet. Damn you romantic comedies for making me ‘feel’! Maybe I need to watch this again just so I can sulk! or swoon over Ledger..
