The Buck stops with Frank

Poor Frank Miller. This time last year he was the toast of, well, Comic-Con (actually, he always has been, and so long as most of the attendees don’t see his new film he might still be – – and going by how it’s tracking, not many of them will be seeing it), now he’s undoubtedly receiving a toast from a smelly bearded man sitting at the other end of the bar from him. If you haven’t heard, Miller’s fully-fledged feature-film directorial debut (he co-directed “Sin City”) has received scathing reviews – Lionsgate have actually hired a P.I to track down someone in L.A who actually liked the movie so they can snag a quote off him for the press campaign. No luck as yet. So “The Spirit” – which, I have to admit, does look rather visually amazing – is this year’s “Battlefield Earth” say the critics. Ouch. Poor Frank. Seems pretty pictures aren’t a match for solid storytelling. Guess he won’t be hired to direct another movie any time soon?

Wrong. Seems Odd Lot Entertainment, the production company behind “The Spirit”, made a deal with Miller to direct their new “Buck Rogers” movie before they read his new film described as a flick that “plunges into a watery grave early on and spends roughly the next 100 minutes gasping for air”.

According to THR, Miller will apply his ‘signature’ to this new film too – so in addition to themes of redemption, corruption and pole-dancing we can assumingly expect everything to be filmed on a green screen somewhere in Burbank.

Odd Lot is in the midst of snagging the rights to the pulp sci-fi serial from Nu Image/Millennium – who assumingly decided to sell them once they realized Stallone’s head was too big for Buck’s helmet.
