’90s icon Rosie Perez (“Fearless, “White Men Can’t Jump”) is dancing her way into the DC Universe.
The actress will play a prominent LGBTQ character in the new Warner Bros/DC movie “Birds of Prey”, which reintroduces audiences to Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn. Robbie also produces the film, which will feature a number of femme fatales from the world of ‘Batman’ teaming up to- presumably- take down a common enemy.
Perez’s Renee Montoya, says The Hollywood Reporter, is a Gotham City police detective who would go on to adopt the masked identity of the Question in the comics.
Montoya joins a line-up that includes Huntress, played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and Black Canary, with Jurnee Smollet-Bell under the mask. Cathy Yan is directing.
Perez, though best known for her comedic work, earned Oscar and Golden Globe nominations for the bravura Peter Weir flick “Fearless” as well as multiple Emmy nominations for her work on TV’s “In Living Color”.
