Total Recall reboot update

Producer Neal Moritz has confirmed that Colin Farrell will – despite the um’s and aah’s of late -star in “Total Recall”.

Speaking to Collider at the “Green Hornet” junket, Moritz confirmed the Irish actor’s appointment as the new Douglas Quaid, the character played by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 1990 version.

Moritz, who also produces the “Fast and the Furious” flicks, added that audiences won’t need to wear grubby black glasses to watch Colin Farrell’s on-screen wife kick his ass.

“We’re not gonna do Recall in 3D, we decided that it would be too much”, Moritz said, adding that it’s a “big movie” all the same.

Moritz said the film will be set in a more realistic world than the previous film (what!? No Johnny Cab!?), “I think the world that Len Wiseman is creating is incredible. It’s a real world, a real future world, where the cities have just gotten so overcrowded that the cities are just built up, up, up, up. It’s just everything I see on the movie, every pre-vis I see on the movie, every conceptual drawing on this movie that I see just makes me more and more excited. We’re playing it like a real world, but there’s all these technological advancements to the real world, and it’s just really, it’s cool. It’s an awesome movie. I’m dying—as a fan of movies, more than anything, it’s a movie that I’m just dying to see.”

The film, which begins shooting in May, will be based more so on Philip K.Dick’s original story “We Can Remember It for You Wholesale” than the film. In this one, Quaid won’t be going to Mars.

As a big fan of the Paul Verhoeven directed original (one of the best cinema experiences of the ’90s; just a visual delight!) I’m still a little unsure about this. Or am I simply hesitant because it’s a Len Wiseman film? What about you guys? Interested in this?
