Twilight isn’t Summit’s only lucrative franchise…

2010’s best ‘Old coots with Guns’ flick “Red” – the retired agent yarn starring Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren, John Malkovich and Morgan Freeman – just passed the $90 million mark. That’s not so much a win as the rare thing of the film still playing in cinemas fourth months after it’s initial release. Following the film’s Golden Globe Nomination for Best Comedy/Musical, I’d expect it’ll even get a bump this coming weekend.

Success equals sequels, of course, so Summit have announced they’ll be franchising Robert Schwentke’s film. According to Collider, Erich and Jon Hoeber, writers of the original, have been retained to pen the sequel.

No deals are in place for Willis, Freeman, Malkovich or director Schwentke so there’s a small chance they won’t be back… heck, teeny tiny chance that “Red 2 : Still Green” may go direct-to-video with a cast headlined by Gary Busey and Rutger Hauer.
