Various Sequel News

“Lovely Bones” star Saoirse Ronan is said to be reuniting with director Peter Jackson on “The Hobbit”. No word on which role she’d play [IFTN]

John Putch (“American Pie : Book of Love”) will direct “Beethoven Saves Christmas”, the latest in a long line of sequels to the doggone laffer starring Charles Grodin. Production begins next month on Canada on the film. [What’s Playing]

Though it started out as a prequel to “Alien”, “Prometheus” is said to now be a stand-alone film that, most presumed, would be set in a different universe to the Sigourney Weaver starring space saga. Rumours now suggest that the film might still include links to the “Alien” series, including appearances by ‘The Space Jockey’ and the Aliens themselves [SkyMovies]

The cast of Garry Marshall’s “Valentine’s Day” spin-off just keeps getting chunkier. “New Years Eve”, which has already attracted the likes of Robert De Niro, Michelle Pfeiffer, Jessica Biel and Ashton Kutcher, has added Ice Cube (“Are We There Yet?”), Josh Duhamel (“Life As We Know It”) and ‘American Idol’ host Ryan Seacrest (playing himself) to it’s star-studded cast. There may be a “Cloverfield” sequel… but it isn’t coming anytime soon. Director Matt Reeves said a sequel is “always at the back of my mind” but a busy workload permits him, and his colleagues, from developing the film at the moment. “We would love to do it, we just haven’t figured out the idea that we want to do yet,” Reeves said. “J.J. [Abrams] has been very busy with ‘Super 8′ and he’s really busy with it now, obviously because they’ve got a release date to make and he’s busily working in editorial.”
“….we do constantly talk about trying to find a moment to get together so we can sit down and talk about what we think would be the best version of doing something like that because we think it would be really fun to do. Hopefully we’ll have time in the near future to start talking about it.” [MTV]

There’ll be no jaw’s dropping here. Judi Dench will reprise her as ‘M’ in the next 007 movie, due November 2012. Dench has played the role of ‘M’ since 1995’s “Goldeneye”. [BBC]
