You want a Who Framed Roger Rabbit sequel, Disney doesn’t

A quick search will inform you that a sequel to “Who Framed Roger Rabbit?” was written but never produced. According to director Robert Zemeckis – out on the promo trail for his new film “Allied” – that’s the way it’s going to stay too.

Talking to The Telegraph (via Slashfilm), the veteran filmmaker says there’s basically no chance we’ll see the sequel, the script of which he describes as “magnificent,” and “more a continuation than a sequel.”

It follows Roger and Jessica Rabbit “into the next few years of period film, moving on from film noir to the world of the 1950s.” The character of Eddie Valiant, played by the original by Bob Hoskins, would now be a ghost (Hoskins admitting that if the film were ever to happen they’d use a digitized version of the late actor).

Zemeckis blames the lack of interest from Disney as the core reason why “Roger Rabbit 2” will never see the light of day.

“the current corporate Disney culture has no interest in Roger, and they certainly don’t like Jessica at all.”

And yet they keep greenlighting “Pirates of the Caribbean” movies…!?
