Whatever happened to Highlander : The Source?

The long-gestating sequel is getting a makeover

Revisited the “Highlander” films in recent weeks.

Still love the franchise. Love what Gregory Widen created there. Adore the first film. Hate the sequel. Think the third and fourth film are, well, OK. Think the soundtrack rocks. Wondering where Christof is now.

The newest film in the boundless series, “Highlander: The Source”, has been completed for a while. Thing is, its pretty shit. Or so they say.

Sword-yielding Adrian Paul, the star of the thing, tells fans on his official website that the producers have decided to go back and edit it again to try and improve it.

“From what I understand, the next cut of the film has been substantially modified. There will be a lot of different things that will show it in another light. Dialogue removed and replaced. Scenes cut a different way. Some of the effects have been added and changed. However, I can tell you that there will not be any scenes that have been reshot.”

(Last year Paul was asked, via his website, whether he’s happy with the film. He responded : “Is it a good movie? I’ll let you decide.”. Hmmm.)

Those that have seen the film – the cut referred to by Paul, anyway – say there’s quite a few problems with it. For starters, the immortals in the film can be killed rather easily; secondly, there’s no real explanation (a’la “Highlander II : The Quickening”) about what these people are and do; and also, there’s some stuff with ‘cannibals’ (?) in there that doesn’t quite work.

Hopefully they’ll rectify some of that and come up with something at least as good as the last one.

Lionsgate plan to release “Highlander : The Source” in September.

I’m still interested in seeing it. Problems aside. I think Paul’s great as Duncan MacLeod – in “Highlander :Endgame” he totally stole the show from Lambert – and believe the script was pretty good (so I hear).

Never seen the series though, was it any good?
