According to Deadline, Will Ferrell is circling the role of sexploitation king Russ Meyer in the new indie film “Russ & Roger Go Beyond”.
The film, scripted by “Saturday Night Live” writer Christopher Cluess, tells of Meyer and film critic Roger Ebert’s collaboration on the 1970 film “Beyond the Valley of the Dolls”.
At the time, Ebert was just starting out as a film critic for the Chicago Sun-Times when he was asked to co-write the script with the infamous Meyer, director of sexploitation films such as “Beneath the Valley of the Ultra-Vixens” and “Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!”.
Originally intended as a sequel to “Valley of the Dolls”, “Beyond the Valley of the Dolls” instead ended up somewhat of a satire of the earlier film. The film, which snared an X rating, was distributed by Twentieth Century Fox and did well at the box-office.
Ferrell, currently filming “Get Hard” with Kevin Hart, is in talks though no deal has been made yet.
